Calendar of Events

The UD Women’s Center maintains this calendar of events of interest to women students, staff and faculty. Some of the items listed are sponsored by the UD Women’s Center, while others are activities and events sponsored by other UD and selected external organizations. Posted events are open to the public unless otherwise specified.

The Center’s goal is to keep the calendar as comprehensive and current as possible. To that end, if you have an event that would be of interest to UD women and would like to have it posted on this calendar, please contact the UD Women’s Center at 937-229-5490. The Women’s Center reserves the right to decide whether or not an item will be posted based on its perceived relevance to UD women. We suggest you also post all appropriate events on the UD Campus Calendar, which can be found at http://events.udayton.edu

Her Story - Her Song: Festival of African-American Women Composers and Arrangers
Her Story - Her Song: Festival of African-American Women Composers and Arrangers, Friday through Saturday, Oct. 16-17, Sears Recital Hall, with performances each night at 7 p.m. Festival director Donna Cox brings together experts to praise the human spirit with music composed and arranged by black women. The festival will feature a concert of blues, jazz and gospel by African-American women composers and arrangers on Friday night and conclude Saturday evening with performances by University of Dayton faculty. The festival connects people from all walks of life, making an impact on every aspect of our lives — from creativity to education. "Her Story - Her Song" unites audiences, scholars and performers in a musical community that transcends genres and generations. From art songs to gospel and jazz, presenters will explore the vast treasure of music composed by black women. The festival will include recitals, presentations and interactive workshops, which travel from Africa to America in a musical voyage. Activities invite patrons to sing with a gospel choir; consider how they might capture their own story in song; learn from one of the nation's leading African-American choral composers, Rosephanye Powell; and hear recitals with music by Florence Price, Undine Smith Moore, Lena McLin, Betty Ann King, Diane White and others. The intimate, informative and relaxed atmosphere will include many opportunities to get to know people who value the significant contributions of African-American women to American history and culture.
